Elwood Murray (1897-1988) taught speech at the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado from 1931 to 1962. He also directed the School of Speech at the University from 1932 until his retirement in 1962. He earned a Ph.D. in Speech and Psychology from the University of Iowa in 1931. In 1949 he initiated the founding of the National Society for the Study of Communication and served as its president in 1953. Lillian "Lilly" Ann Blumberg (born Ginsborg) is an alumna of the University of Denver. She tells the story of her life with a focus on conflicts within the family and at work, along with the challenge of financing her education in dentistry which she was unable to finish. Eventually she breaks free of family conflict by finding a new career as a dental hygenist at an Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas.
