Abstract Pueblo, Colorado's Jewish community solidified in 1886 with the founding of the Hebrew Benevolent Union, though Jews had been in Pueblo since the 1860s--specifically the Goldsmith Family who had family members there since 1861. The first congregation was started in 1895. In 1900, Temple Emanuel, a reform temple was built and the orthodox later incorporated as B'nai Jacob. In 1950, the United Hebrew Center was formed. Abstract

A costume party at the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS) held for patients. Parties were often given for patients of the JCRS as a form of recreation while they recovered from tuberculosis. The JCRS was a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients that was founded in 1904 by a group of immigrant Jewish working men along with the support of several leading physicians and rabbis in Denver, Colorado. It was located on West Colfax Avenue just outside of Denver.

Purple Torah Mantle

Abstract

A purple velvet cotton Torah mantle (cover). The mantle is trimmed with gold fringe, sequins, and gold trim. There is a white and gold design on the front. The design consists of a crown, two lions, Hebrew letters standing for ''the crown of the Torah,'' and the Ten Commandments in Hebrew.

Abstract

The hat features a circular center with petal shapes going outward. The entire outside of the hat is purple velvet that is wired at the edge and has been manipulated into a shape referred to as ''wired wings''. The inside has light blue taffeta over buckram and a light blue grosgrain ribbon hat band. The interior label reads: ''Kate Ferretti Denver''. From the top view, the hat is meant to resemble a daisy.
