Abstract

Pincas Ganz (1868-1918) and Sarah Katz Ganz (1877-1962) were both born in Austria and married in 1895 in New York. They settled in Denver during the early 1900s with their three daughters Harriette (Hattie), Minnie, and Jeanette. When Pincas died of influenza in 1918, the family returned to New York to live with Sarah's family, where she worked for New York Life Insurance Co.

Abstract

Harry Pells was Jewish businessman in Denver, CO. He owned and operated an insurance agency and was an active marine. Harry Pells enlisted in the Army in both WWI and WWII. He was later involved in veterans’ organizations, such as the Jewish War Veterans and the American Legion where he organized a toy drive that sent over 50,000 toys to Europe. Collection contains personal papers, news clippings, pamphlets and, a newsletter related to Harry Pells from 1918 through 1986.

Abstract Leopold "Leo" Louis Block (November 25, 1914 - August 31, 2009) was a native of Denver, Colorado, born to parents Lily (Silver) and Morris Herz Block. He attended East High School, and earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Denver June 5, 1935. He worked in the insurance industry before serving in the Army during World War II, and then joined his cousin Edward Block in a wine bottling business in San Antonio, Texas where the two formed Block Distributing Company.
