Abstract

Openshaw gives an account of life in Mesa, Arizona, where his family moved in 1902. Openshaw was one of the founders of the United Dairymen of Arizona, which helped establish the dairy industry in Arizona. He mentions some of the local businesses, and talks about recreation and the value of a dollar in earlier times. He also describes transportation and freight operations in Mesa in the early 20th century.

Raymond G. Carey Papers

Abstract

Born in Iola, Kansas, Raymond Carey (1901-1972) studied at Southwestern College (Kansas), Oxford University, and the University of Chicago. He was a professor of history at the University of Denver from 1945 to 1971, specializing in modern European history. This collection includes a copy of Carey's dissertation, materials from his classes, and French historical documents.

Abstract

Robert C. Black III (1914-2001) received an M.A. from the University of Denver and Ph.D. from Columbia University. He taught at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Trinity College, as well as Temple Buell College in Denver. After retiring from teaching he lived near Tabernash, Colorado. Black is the author of several books on historical topics. Collection includes manuscript of Island in the Rockies: The History of Grand County, Colorado, to 1930.
