Abstract Blanche Da Costa Whitney was born September 24, 1882 in Chicago. She studied with Rudolph Ganz at Chicago Musical College before joining Mme Schumann-Heink, a noted opera signer, to Europe. Da Costa sang leading opera roles in Germany. She was forced to leave Germany by World War I and returned to America. She had a son, Frederick Berman, by her first husband. Her son died in 1945. She married Warren C. Whitney, vice president of A. B. Chase Piano Company in 1918. They moved to Denver...

Bloomfield Park Scrapbook

Abstract Sam Bloomfield had a fish market in Bloomfield Park (now Rude Park) that catered to the Orthodox Jews in the West Colfax area. In the early 1920s, philanthropists Isadore Rude, Leopold Guldman, and Mary Reed bought the land and deeded it to the City and County of Denver. The collection contains a scrapbook with articles about a Mesa county scandel involving murder and fish, Sam Bloomfield and his fish market, the West Side neighborhood, and various groups that met at the Park. Abstract Helen Bonfils built the Bonfils Theatre, on East Colfax Avenue at Elizabeth Street, Denver, Colorado, in 1953. The theatre was built to try to preserve live theater in a time when Hollywood Films were taking over the entertainment industry.
