Grey and Byron Collection
Abstract
The Grey and Byron collection contains a variety of materials from the traveling Vaudeville pair, Dolly Grey and Bert Byron. Types of materials include clothing, accessories, jewelry, handgun, bullets, photographs, newspaper clippings, membership certificates, property documents, death certificates, scripts, poems, notes, short stories, sheet music, lyrics, general ledgers, pocket calendars, travel albums, and photo albums. Individuals included in this collection include Dolly Grey, Bert Byron, and Bert Byron's second wife, Clara Dunn.

Biographical / Historical
This collection contains a variety of materials from vaudeville acting duo, Bert Byron and Dolly Grey. Bert Byron and Dolly Grey were married on June 21, 1918 in Washington DC. Dolly Grey was the stage name of Hermina Dorothy Gottlieb. She was born June 20, 1882 in New York, New York to Julius Gottlieb and and Mrs. Gottlieb. The Gottlieb family were Jewish Hungarian Americans. Arthur Byron Chamberlain went by his stage name Bert Byron and on April 21, 1922 he legally changed his name to his stage name. He was born April 9, 1882 in Lawrence Kansas to George and Katherine Byron. Katherine Byron's maiden name was Dickman. Grey and Byron traveled across the United States singing and performing in vaudeville acts from the 1910s through the 1930s. The pair settled in Florida and in 1951 bought a house and orange grove. Dorothy died on February 24 1956 in St. Petersburg, Florida and was survived by her husband Bert. Bert Byron remarried in 1957 to Clara Dunn. Byron died on March 9, 1964 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
