Abstract

This collection contains one (1) steamer trunk, which was used by the Kasztl family on their journey from Shanghai, China to Denver, Colorado, through the port at San Francisco. Written on the top of the trunk is, "DENVER COLOR." with "[old?] FRISCO" beneath.

Biographical / Historical

Members of the Kasztl family fled the Nazis in 1938 from Austria. They made it to Shanghai, China, where they found refuge for approximately nine (9) years before making their way to Denver, Colorado via San Francisco, California. The trunk in this collection was used for the trips from Shanghai to San Francisco, and from San Francisco to Denver.
