Stan Phillips Papers

Stanley C. Phillips (1932-2014), an experimental filmmaker, was born in Sterling, Colorado and grew up in Denver. He attended Byers, Denver South High, and earned a B.A. in English from the University of Denver. After serving in the Army Security Agency he returned to DU and worked toward an M.A. in Anthropology. Later he taught in the DU Dept of Mass Communications for two semesters. He was the Laboratory Manager and Vice President at Western Cine; wrote many industrial film scripts for Denver film producers and several film scripts for the Colorado State Dept. of Public Health. In 1967 Stan created the first Animation Studio in Denver and, in addition to making short TV spots, made two short animated films for The National Parks' Visitor's Centers at Capitol Reef and Rocky Mountain National Park. In 1985 Phillips relocated to LA where he continued his animation career at Marvel, DiC, and Disney, supervising two animated features: "Madeline, Lost in Paris" and "A Christmas Carol".
