Tenn. Wesleyan Mock Convention, 1964 April 10
Abstract
Following opening ceremonies and several short speeches by students, local dignitaries and Congressman William E. Brock (R-Tenn.), Senator Peter H. Dominick (R-Colo.) delivers the keynote address at a mock Republican National Convention organized by students at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn. on Friday, April 10, 1964. Sen. Dominick discusses the prospects for success for Republican candidates in the upcoming presidential and congressional elections, saying that a majority of Americans support the principles of the Republican Party. He notes that Republicans won the popular vote in 1960 except in large cities like New York, Detroit, and Chicago and talks about how Republicans are increasing their support in urban areas. Dominick also discusses the failures of the Democratic leadership including scandals, negativism, and a failed foreign policy with respect to communist nations.
