Burning Me Open, 2011

Artist's Proof #1 of a [7] page limited edition (18 copies published) artist's book derived from a unique single copy artist's book created in 2009. The original text is by the artist, and the original color oil paintings have been rendered here as line etchings. The rigid pages that make up the text block are constructed of several layers, a sandwich (from the bottom up) of etched cast acrylic, shaped gold leaf (replaced by copper leaf in the published version) and etched cast acrylic. Copper tape is wrapped around the outer perimeter of each page. The binding is made from Peltogyne (Purpleheart) wood. The recessed space for a title label is blank on this artist's proof. Published copies have a label of laser printed copper leaf mounted on museum board. The book is coptic sewn across the spine with dyed and waxed 4-ply linen thread.
