Abstract

Professor Howe's diary for 1910 recounts his brief weather and astronomical observations, administrative and teaching activities at the University of Denver (DU), entertainment of visitors to the Chamberlin Observatory, participation in events in University Park and elsewhere in Denver, as well as his family and religious life. Special mention is made of: Howe's mother-in-law's death from pneumonia on January 29; his father-in-law, Joseph C. Shattuck coming to live with the Howes; the reopening of the Iliff School of Theology in University Park; observing, lecturing and publishing about Halley's Comet and Comet 1910a; and his surveying class staking neighborhood lots, and laying out the grade for a DU gymnasium.
