JCRS Plaque, circa 1910
Abstract
Photograph of bronze plaque, ''This tablet is erected by the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society in appreciation of the efforts made by The New York Ladies' Auxiliary in rearing this structure for the relief and cure of tuberculosis.'' The officers, directresses, and trustees are listed. Mrs. Aaron Shapiro is listed as a directress. ''He who saves one life is considered as if he had preserved the whole world,'' the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS) motto appears at the bottom. The JCRS was a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients that was founded in 1904 by a group of immigrant Jewish workingmen along with the support of several leading physicians and rabbis in Denver, Colorado. The sanatorium was located on West Colfax Avenue just outside of Denver.
