Brown Velvet Tefillin Bag, circa 1900
Abstract
A brown velvet tefillin (phylacteries) bag with embroidery on the front and back. One side has red, yellow, blue, and green chain and buttonhole stitched flowers. The second side is embroidered with running and back stitches to form a Star of David with flowers in each of the triangles. There is a monogram in the center of the star. The drawstring closure is a red grosgrain ribbon stitched on by hand with blue embroidery floss. Originally belonged to the Kern Family.
