Portrait of Louis Anfenger, circa 1890
Abstract
Louis Anfenger of Denver, Colorado. Born in Bavaria, Anfenger came to the United States in the 1850s, moving west in 1870 to seek his fortune. He started as a clerk and became a highly successful businessman in the area of real estate, as well as a member of the Denver Chamber of Commerce, and was later elected to the state legislature in the 1880s. He built a home at Champa Street and Twenty-ninth Street in Denver. Anfenger was also a founder and supporter of Congregational Emanuel, the local B'nai B'rith and National Jewish Hospital.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains materials intentionally assembled by the Ira M. and Peryle Hayutin Beck Memorial Archives of Jews in the Rocky Mountain region. The bulk of the photographs are from or related to various towns in Colorado, but the collection also contains photographs from other states in the western United States and other countries. There are some 19th century photograph types represented in the collection, including albumen prints, daguerrotypes, tintypes, post cards, colorized prints, cabinet cards, and cartes-de-visite.
