Rabbinical Search and Employment, 2004-2012
Abstract
This folder contains information pertaining to the process of selecting a rabbi for the congregation in approximately 2012 and issues with the renewal of Rabbi Yehuda Cahan's contract in 2011. Materials include correspondence with the rabbi and board members discussing the issue, negotiations, a contract officially cutting the professional relationship between the rabbi and the congregation, and ballots from members of the congregation voting on the rabbi's contract renewal. Due to significant problems with debt facing the congregation, Rabbi Cahan's salary was reduced leading to the issues that arose in 2011 ultimately preventing Rabbi Cahan from renewing his contract. The board of directors was able to come to an agreement with the rabbi in which he would be paid in multiple installments to eliminate the debt he incurred as a result of the reduction in salary. Also included is a copy of the rabbinical employment agreement for Rabbi Tzvi Steinberg who was onboarded in 2012 and a legal pad with notes about the rabbinical search process.
