Abstract

Box 9 contains Raymond Carey's contextual research on the Civil War, the Kansas Territorial Period, Colorado regiments and cavalries, relations with Native Americans, recruiting and enlistment in Colorado, the 100 Day Men Volunteers, Special orders, General orders, Colorado military elections and trials, news reactions and reports after the Sand Creek Massacre, and a timeline leading up to the Sand Creek Massacre. It also contains micellaneous notecards stating some of the sources he used throughout his research.

Box 9 also contains Raymond Carey's biographical research on people involved in the Sand Creek Massacre and people relevant to the context of the Sand Creek Massacre. Sections of this research include: Major Scott Anthony, George and Willialm Bent, John Brown, Lt. Connor (sic.), General P.E. Connor, Colonel John Chivington, the Coberly family, General Samuel Curtis, Dr. John W. Doy, Governor John Evans, Governor John Geary, Ben Holladay, Captain Silas Soule, the Soule family, Charles Squires, Samuel Tappan, Samuel Walker, Dr. Worrell (sic.), and Edward W. Wynkoop.
