Elsie Adams, 1966-1987
Abstract
Elsie W. Adams was born in Denver and graduated from East High in 1906. That year she became the family breadwinner and she put off her plans to attend the University of Denver and became a teacher. In 1912, she was hired by the Denver public school system and while teaching received her B.A. and M.A in education from the University of Denver. After she was forced to retire from Denver public schools, the Presbyterian teacher was invited by the new Hillel Academy to be the English principle. After 14 years of teaching and being the secular education coordinator at the school. Elsie Adams retired from Hillel Academy at the age of 78 in June of 1987. The file contains newspaper clippings about Elsie Adams and about programs honoring her long career in teaching. There is also a 1970 letter from Hillel Academy making her a permanent honorary board member.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains nine folders with Ladies Auxiliart meeting minutes and administrative notes, 1963-1997, two scrapbooks, seven Annual Dinner programs from 1973-1980 and one from 2010, and appointment calendars from 1987 from the Ladies’ Auxiliary of Hillel Academy of Denver, Colorado, from 1963 through 2010.
