Abstract

Oral history interview with Marguerite Fulton Kurtz describing her memories and experiences growing up in Flagstaff, Arizona during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. During her interview she recalls many early Flagstaff residents, including her father and mother, Harry and Julia Fulton, her aunt and uncle, Laura and Joseph Bean Tappen. Both Harry Fulton and Joseph Bean Tappen were sheep ranchers who help formed the Arizona Wool Growers Association. She also mentions Mina Jones (Emerson School teacher), Caroline Austin (Emerson School principal), Edith Tappen, Les Park, Neil Park, Gordon Park (later became the mayor of Prescott), Dr. Robinson, U.s. Senator Ralph Cameron, Professor Douglas, Ms. Florence Dukes, Mr. Switzer, and Cecil Schultz. She discusses seeing President Teddy Roosevelt when he made a visit to the Grand Canyon and meeting John Hanse, who was a well known Grand Canyon pack guide.
