Oral history interview with Wilfred Ambrose, August 25, 1984., 1984, 2005 August 12
Abstract
Mr. Ambrose was born in 1916. He attended the University of Arizona, and began work on locomotives until 1942. After WWII, he worked with the Grand Canyon train tours. He remembers many explosions and accidents due to the steam boilers. Other topics discussed include: work as a locomotive engineer; the rail line from Ash Fork to Phoenix; steam and deisel engines; the Anita railroad run; the entire mode of rail operations; specifics of rail operation for various tracks; reponsibilities of engineers and double loaders; and many personal recollections.
