Oral history interview with Mahlon E. Spivey, 1984., 1984, 2005 August 12
Abstract
Mr. Spivey was born on March 10, 1898, in Waldo, Mississippi. He was a Roadmaster for 15 years. In 1923 he worked for the Grand Canyon Railroad, in Williams, loading steel. Prior to this, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in 1921. Topics discussed include: the duties of a roadmaster; the men who worked under him; the company homes; the school at Anita, Arizona; the washout on the railbed; an a railroad accident in 1939 when an engine tipped over.
