Abstract

Mr. Richard Tripp taught in Oklahoma at a mental institution for two years, Zuni, New Mexico for three years, and at the time of the interview was currently teaching in Massachusetts. Interviewed by Cherry Ray and Carol Tripp on March 1, 1981. Topics discussed in the interview include: Richard's family and educational history -- he was born in Middleburough, Massachusetts; description of his early interest in Indian education; description of Zuni, New Mexico; comparison of Zuni to non-native American schools; goals of Indian education; comments on assimilation; students opinions of the reservation; comments on bi-cultural education; comments on Red Power; personal experiences in helping students maintain culture; and comments about cultural conflict.
