Abstract
Mrs. Sally Lewis taught in Zuni, New Mexico for 15 years and in Chinle, Arizona for 2 years. Interviewed by Cherry Ray on February 7, 1981. Topics discussed in the interview include: Lewis' family and educational background in Little Rock, Arkansas; experiences teaching at Zuni, New Mexico; comparison to non-Indian schools; the goals of Indian education; the strengths of educating Indians for the white culture; reactions of students to not being allowed to speak their native language at school; comparison of Chinle and Zuni; the dependence of Indians on governmental help; curriculum changes due to cross-cultural ideas; comments on Red Power; bringing up a family on the reservation; and general comments on Indian education.
