Abstract

Mr. Arnall Swift is a San Carlos Apache Indian in his mid-twenties who attended Native American schools in Arizona and who has served as a counselor and tutor. Inverviewed by Philip Reed Rulon, Associate Professor of History, Northern Arizona University, on April 7, 1977. Topics discussed in the interview include: Swift's family background on the San Carlos reservation; elementary education at Peridot Mission School; the San Carlos Day School; public school in Globe, Arizona at Globe High School; attendance of Mesa Community College and Boise State; his employment at Globe High School as a counselor and later as a tutor; the attitudes of Apache students towards themselves, classes, and Anglo sudies; and his attendance at NAU to become a certified reading teacher.
