Abstract

Miscellaneous material dealing with Senator Henry Jackson's activities on behalf of Soviet Jewry. Henry M. Jackson was a senator from Washington for 30 years. One of his accomplishments was the Jackson-Vanik Amendment to the 1974 Trade Act that made trade between the United States and the Soviet Union conditioned upon Soviets relaxing restrictions on Jewish emigration. Members of the Colorado Committee of Concern for Soviet Jewry pushed for the Amendment to prevent the Soviet Union from charging exorbitant fees to Jews trying to emigrate.
