Biography
Rachel Leah Kobey (b. March 17, 1858, Sukow, Poland; d. June 30, 1938, Denver, Colorado) was the daughter of Samuel Abraham and Miriam Rachofsky Kobey. The family moved to Manchester, England in 1871, where Rachel Leah Kobey married Isaac Shwayder in 1875. The Shwayder family came to Central City, Colorado in 1881 and in 1888 they settled in Denver. In 1910 they founded the Shwayder luggage company, which became renowned Samsonite Luggage company.
