Abstract

Samuel and his wife Lillie Rice Marchick were born in Ostrovo, Poland. Relatives brought Samuel Marchick to Denver, Colorado in 1904. In 1908, he sent for his wife and three sons. Three daughters were born in Denver. The family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming and opened a clothing store and pawn shop. Samuel Marchick bought and opened the Tivoli building. In 1915, he helped organize and build the first synagogue in Cheyenne. He was active in Jewish organizations in Cheyenne and Denver, indluding the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society, the Beth Israel Home for the Aged, and the B'nai B'rith and the Zionist organization in Cheyenne. Mary Marchick married Chester Waldman and they had two children, Sandra and Robert. Sandra Waldman married Dr. Irwin Vinnik in 1937. The couple had two sons, Stephen and Jonathan. She was the founder of the Dr. Irwin E. Vinnik Fellowship for Advanced Study in Israel, member of Center for Judaic Studies, and member of Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society. Collection contains 15 digitized photographs related to the Marchick and Vinnik families.
